BLM

There’s no witty introduction or segway that would suit this subject matter, so we would just first like to openly state our support for the Black community and that Black Lives Matter

In case you have been living in a media-free world, the events of the past few weeks involving police brutality in the United States have taken the lives of so many innocent Black victims and have sparked a revolution around the world.

Protesters in the streets and everyone at home has been fighting to end the systematic and deeply engrained racist behaviours and beliefs in America as well as around the world. This time we could really make a change in the right direction, but we have to continue these efforts once the trending hashtags aren’t trending anymore.

Although to have events like these occurring during a global pandemic does make it difficult for many people to participate in protests, there are so many other ways you can help from home:

  1. Facilitate Honest Conversations about Racism with Family and Friends

It is important to talk openly about this, and although it can be an intense subject for conversation, there are so many people who live through that intensity on the daily. We thought that racism ended with the end of segregation, but this problem has centuries of history and is therefore deeply ingrained into the generational beliefs that we all learn as we are growing up. We will be facilitating these conversations among our team and encourage you to do the same at home. Confronting these difficult conversations is what will help us to make real progress towards a better future for everyone.

  1. Do The Research to Find The Right Resources Doing Good

There are so many places asking for donations and asking you to sign petitions. Here are a few of our favourite resources for finding trusted organizations:

  1. Support Black-owned Businesses

Check out these free apps:

  • Black Nation: an easily accessible exclusively Black business directory
  • We Buy Black: an online marketplace like Amazon that carries exclusively Black-owned brands.

At Ceremony Travel, we would like to stand in solidarity with the Black community and show our support for the fight against racism. We have always encouraged key values such as inclusivity and equality within our team, as well as on destination.

We’re living in a time of change, and you can be a part of it! Black Lives Matter!
