Some Hidden Gem (and Social Distancing Friendly) Day Trips Around Toronto & Vancouver

Watching travel movies and taking walks around the neighbourhood can only last for so long. Since the world is (kind of?) starting to open back up again, while we all stay safe wearing masks and keeping our distance, why not have a whole new adventure that’s only a short drive away from your city! We’ve done the research so that you don’t have to! Here are some of the coolest spots for the day trips around Toronto and Vancouver, our two student hotspots! 

Toronto

Elora & Fergus, ON

  • 1.5 hours out of downtown Toronto 
  • Some of Ontario’s best views
  • Stuff to check out: Templin Gardens, Elora Quarry Conservation Area & Elora Gorge 

Midland, ON

  • 1 hour 45 mins from Toronto
  • Stuff to check out: 30+ murals painted around the town, this one’s for the Art lovers! This adorable town is another attraction in itself. Wander the boutique shops and stop in for lunch at one of the many darling cafes around town!
  • Near Honey Harbour and Wasaga Beach
  • This town is known for its cultural events for all ages, all year round

Tobermory, ON

  • 3.5 hours
  • This may not be a that much of a “hidden gem”, but we couldn’t help including it!
  • Stuff to check out: Flowerpot Island, Diving & Snorkeling Shipwreck Tours, Hiking the Bruce Trail, and as much exploring around a National Park as you can imagine! The Park also has a restaurant and a small shop. 

Vancouver

Cypress Falls, BC

  • 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver 
  • Easy and scenic 3km hike through a cedar/fir forest that brings you to the beautiful Cypress Falls surrounded by canyons! The hike is approx 1.5 hours there and back, so it’s a perfect way to spend an afternoon.

The Shoreline Trail at Rocky Point Park, Port Moody, BC

  • 35 minutes from downtown Vancouver
  • Paved biking and walking trail that extends about 6km, and takes approx. 2 hours to walk the entire thing. If you’re looking for a shorter trail, you can enter and exit at multiple points along the way. 
  • The park also has an outdoor pool, skateboard park, other hiking & biking trails, kayak & paddleboard rental shops, and a waterfront restaurant!
